Thanks for visiting Expat Heather! I’m an international educator, writer, and expat mom currently living in South Korea. On this site you’ll find things about living abroad, teaching in international schools, travel, hiking, and expat life.
In September 2016, my two children and I moved from our lovely garden house off Nguyen Thi Dinh to a two-bedroom apartment at Lexington Residence. Lexington is a Novaland luxury apartment complex located off Mai Chi Tho Highway, on the An Phu side of District 2 in Ho Chi Minh City. It’s fairly new and many units are still being finished.
Ho Tram Beach is my new favorite beach getaway in Vietnam, and for good reasons: it’s uncrowded, has calm spots for young kids, and is only a two-hour drive from the city. I recently went with my kids (ages 2 and 5), and I wish we’d gone earlier!
After 5 years in Ho Chi Minh City, we are moving to Mumbai in summer 2017!
Expat life in Vietnam has been great for young children, and I’ve had wonderful career opportunities in my current school. However, I found it difficult to get outside of the expat bubble as a single mom, and I felt ready to move on.
With everything I researched about expat & family life in various world cities, Mumbai kept coming back on my radar in spite of the mega-city’s various challenges. I decided to do a recon trip in February 2016. Would I move back to South Asia, this time with two kids in tow?
In January 2015, I had the chance to visit some temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The largest temple complex and one of the “top three” for tourists, Angkor Wat was worth visiting but crowded.
I love the start of a new year. It’s such a natural time to reflect and remember. In addition to thinking about what I learned this past year and what advice I’d like to give myself for 2016, I wanted to take verbal snapshots of some of my most memorable travel moments in 2015. There are actually many more, but these are the 15 which stood out to me this morning as I was journaling.
The “we” statements all refer to different people or groups of people. You might recognize yourself in these moments.
1. Trundling down Bayon’s back roads in a vintage military Jeep while my mom Holly clutched her seat belt to her chest and insinuated I was trying to kill her. She even took a cryptic photo to send home to Dad, just in case.
