Scenic Walk in Pohang: Homi Bando Coastal Trail with Kids

The coast of Pohang can be explored by walking along the Haeparang Trail, or “Haeparanggil Course” if you’re searching in Naver. This through-walking trail combines coastal trails, scenic roads, and urban walks. A particularly scenic and easily accessible section of the trail is located on Haeaparanggil Course 16, at the Homi Bando Coastal Trail.

The Homi Bando Coastal trail is a 700m section or raised wooden walkways that takes you along the cliffs, to a pebbly beach, and to another small fishing village. To access the trail, you can park here.

It took us 30 minutes to do this small section of the trail and come back. Toilets are available at the trailhead. The trail is completely accessible up to the first pebbly beach, so you could walk with a stroller. The trail offers no shade cover.

Homi Bando Coastal Trail Views

What I found most interesting about the trail is that you can always see the steel factories of POSCO in the distance. The trail highlights the juxtaposition of heavy manufacturing, which supports the current human way of life, and preserved natural beauty. The kids honestly didn’t even notice those views; they were focused on their immediate environment, looking for sea glass and feeling upset about the plastic waste that had washed ashore.

Overall, it was a nice little sunset walk after a big day of hiking the 12 waterfall route from Bogyeongsa Temple the day prior. We found it more appealing to drive along the coast rather than attempt the longer routes of the Haeparang Trail, as finding public transport to get back to your vehicle after a long hike can be tricky. Also, much of the Haeparang aligns with the road and is exposed to the sun.
