Two of the travel writing contests listed below (#2 and #4) were also featured in the October Edition, but since the deadlines haven’t passed yet I’ve included them again here.

Contests are listed by application date with the closest deadlines first.

1.GranTourismo Travel Blogging Competition

Prize:

First Prize – A $750 voucher with HomeAway rentals to stay anywhere in the world, a Viatour voucher worth $150, a Moleskine travel notebook and Putumayo’s World Christmas Party CD.

There are some sweet prizes for second and third place.

Submissions:

One photo and a 250-word blog post about celebrating a holiday.

Previously Published Works:

You need to publish the piece on your own blog or a group blog site that you contribute to regularly.

Notes:

Contests entrants must subscribe to the site RSS, follow on Twitter, like on Facebook and join GranTourismo’s community on Google Friend Connect.

2. Wanderlust & Lipstick 3rd Annual Travel Writing Contest for Women

Prize:

A 10-day tour for 2 people in Vietnam and Cambodia. 5 category winners will get a 22″ Briggs & Riley carry-on suitcase.

Submissions:

Nonfiction travel narrative – 800 to 2,500 words
You can submit up to 5 times, once in each of the following categories: Adventure, Family Fun, Food & Drink, Off the Beaten Path, and Spiritual.

3. Trazzler: South Florida Writing Assignment

Prize:

Freelance writing contract for $1250 to write 30 short articles (65-120 words) plus 5 nights free lodging in Miami

4. Transitions Abroad Narrative Writing Contest

Prizes:

$500 for 1st place winner, $150 for 2nd place, $100 or 3rd place and $50 for runners-up

Submissions:

1,000 to 5,000 word travel narrative articles that “describe how traveling in a slower manner and adapting to the space and time of natives has deepened your experience of both the people and the destination.”

5. Creative Nonfiction: Narrative About “The Night”

Prize:

$5000 for Best Essay plus publication in CNF’s Summer 2011 issue, $2500 plus publication in CNF online

Submissions:

Non-fiction piece up to 4,000 words. From the CNF submission call:

Creative Nonfiction and The Salt Institute are seeking essays about “The Night”: It was a dark and stormy night; Strangers in the Night; the night sky; Friday Night Lights; things that go bump in the night; Take Back the Night; night owls; The Night Before Christmas; The Night Watch; The Night Kitchen; The Armies of the Night; The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down; prom night; date night; Good Night, Nurse!

Essays must be vivid and dramatic; they should combine a strong and compelling narrative with a significant element of research or information, and reach for some universal or deeper meaning in personal experiences. We’re looking for well-written prose, rich with detail and a distinctive voice.

$20 reading fee or $25 for reading fee plus 4-issue CNF subscription. This contest is not specially for travel writers but for all forms of creative nonfiction. Multiple entries welcome.

Prize:
